Newquay might be best known as a popular party town – but behind its glitzy clubs and thriving surf scene is a family destination with plenty to do for all ages. If you’re planning a family break to Cornwall, here are five reasons why Newquay should be on your agenda.
- The beaches: Newquay officially boasts over ten beaches, most of which are blessed with golden sand, lapping waters and fabulous facilities. For families, Fistral Beach is a good place to enjoy some fun in the sun – its town centre location, safe swimming and beautiful views create a relaxing and enjoyable environment.
- The water sports: Adults may be content to lie back and soak up the sun on holiday, but kids are generally a little more demanding. Fortunately, Newquay has a fantastic range of water sports available for all ages, with surfing, waterskiing and kitesurfing all taught at the famous Watergate Bay Extreme Academy. If you’re planning on taking part in water sports then don’t forget to take out holiday insurance with a specialist provider such as Go Travel Insurance – an insurance policy will protect you in case of accident and ensure peace of mind during your break.
- The wet weather attractions: Despite enjoying a mild micro-climate, Newquay is a traditional British seaside destination – and that means that rain is always a possibility. Fortunately, there’s plenty to do in poor weather, from swimming indoors at the Waterworld or the Oasis Fun Pools to seeing sea horses, sharks and stingrays at the Blue Reef Aquarium. If you’re visiting the aquarium then don’t miss the nursery pool, where newly hatched fish can be viewed at close quarters.
- The zoo: Winner of several prestigious tourism awards, Newquay Zoo wows visitors with stunning displays and plenty of interactive experiences. See hundreds of members of the animal kingdom, ranging from lions to otters, take part in feeding times and watch themed talks enlivened by furry helpers.
- The activity parks: Most family holidays wouldn’t be complete without a theme park visit. Newquay has a number of activity parks, but perhaps the largest and most popular is The Flambards Experience – boasting plenty of great rides as well as a ‘Victorian’ village, a Memory Lane exhibition and a Cool Zone for winter fun, this park has everything needed to put the finishing touches to a fantastic seaside holiday.
